Ziggy was his name among humans, as I recall.

Oh good. I wasn't imagining it.
Now we just need to figure out if the periods in time match up. Do you remember which thread it was posted in? (it could narrow the search)
... I hope it wasn't culled. :(

I don't remember the thread (maybe just the Hiver Q&A one), but the story was copied over to the wiki here. By checking the history of that page, it looks like that story is from before July 22, 2006, so it might be better to do a google search for it instead of using the forum search.

I believe this is the original:

I find the forum search to be a bit useless, but google also found these.

Something about Hiver history makes me think of Romance of he Three Kingdoms. And, strangely, Once Upon a Time in China. :D mostly the former, with the thought of a humble prince roaming the land and meting out justice conjuring the latter.

... Once upon a time, there was a human colony that adopted an orphan Hiver, the only surviver of the Hiver colony which had previously been blasted off the contested planet. ...

This would indicate(at least to me) it was not only during the war between the Humans and Hivers, but enough into it that the Hivers could fight back enough to consider the planet "contested". Meaning the Hivers were at that point united against the Humans.

So something like this:
4014 Obsidian Crown attacks Earth
4025 Hivers unite against Humans
???? Humans adopt Ziggy?
4040 some of the Crown Jewels returned by ?Ziggy?
4042 Armstice signed

Hm, given that the brains of hivers have a crystalline makeup, can we assume that the crown jewels are in fact, the minds of previous queens? I can see why the scenareo battle in sots is so important now...

Did Radiant Frost still physically need the Crown Jewels at that point to become Queen or was this a formality to legitimize her rule?

There were more questions here but I answered most of them myself by re-reading the other Hiver thread.

Yet more editing to avoid a double-post.

What happened to the progeny of the defeated Queens of the Warring Queens period? Are there any Hivers alive today that can trace their lineage back to these ancient Queens?

The Interregnum started(in full) in 3768, and ended(artificialy) in 4025.
It wasn't a true end to the Interregnum as Radiant Frost did not have the jewels at that point, but she was able to unite the Hivers against the Humans.
I think she was much like her aunt Autumn Twilight, a "Princess Regent".

Presumably that would be "Princess Regnant", not regent. Regent is when one person (temporarily) acts as a ruler in the stead of someone not yet capable or legally allowed to rule.

Maybe. I just copy pasted what was posted about Autumn Twilight. And during her time they had still hoped to find Immaculate Pearl.

Yes; as I understood it, Autumn Twilight ruled as regent for the missing Immaculate Pearl. I had thought that by the time Radiant Frost came to power, though, that they had given up on finding Immaculate Pearl, and thus she would be ruling as Princess Regnant, i.e. ruling as Queen but not yet an actual Queen. That's somewhat bound up in Zerg_Bomber's question. Perhaps I shouldn't assume that, though; she may have just continued the position as regent until the crown jewels were delivered, providing positive proof of Immaculate Pearl's demise.

The reasoning behind my question is that with no other Queen around to retard the maturation of the other Princesses via pheromones, I get the impression the Hivers were dangerously close to another Warring Queens period by the time the Crown Jewels were finally delivered.

Potentially, yes. Certainly if the Human race had not eliminated Obsidian Crown, it would have been inevitable.

Yes. Becoming Queen is spiritually and personally significant, as well as biologically significant.
