How do pirates coordinate their attacks?

Post by chris0101 » Thu Oct 25, 2012 4:18 am

Whenever you see pirates, you see a motley collection of ships from different species.

How do they get all of these ships to arrive at the same time to the same system? They all use different methods to travel through space and at different speeds.

All pirates are attracted to the same "hunting grounds" regardless of specie/shiptype. They probably just represent what ships just happen to be in the area, frequenting the shipping lanes the freighters are using. In the "golden age of pirates", they would sometimes work loosely together, corralling ships to be boarded, but then all discipline would go by the board when it came to getting their hands on the booty (after all, victory wasn't a concern, only profits and supplys were). Then they would go their own way until the next merchant came along, and the pirates would gather again.

Actually piracy is much, much more involved than the simplified abstraction that is represented in the game and could include entire countrys involved in piracy! And it would be legal (by their lights!) If you research "Commerce Raiding" (in game) your race can participate directly in piracy! 8)
