Who built the system killer? And Why?

Post by Aedrion » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:27 am

Shows up out of nowhere, kills your fleets - it doesn't care what you have - kills your planets, :awesome: at you, leaves, repeat.

Who built that?

What race thought that building a self-maintaining ship of doom that visits planets and blows them up was a good idea?
Warfare generally includes a winner and a loser. Not much use winning if your own weapon decides to kill you next.

I recal the sotspedia saying it was built long ago during a time of need, or somesuch. =)
Was it some last effort to stop an enemy? Was it used as some galactic warding machine to discourage expansion into certain regions? Or was it just some fellow who thought creating a behemoth that killed people was just... amazing? "This is nessesary, don't you see? :insane: "

I guess the same could be said for the Puppetmaster but that one seems like it wasn't built by anyone, really. System Killer was though.

It is a war machine. The last survivor of a war which had been over for billions of years by the time the earth's crust cooled.

You will never know who built it. You will never know why.

All you will ever know is that they made a dreadful, dreadful mistake.

It really is like that isn't it.

Probably some sort of cold war stand-off between two races or empires. During which time one side built or designed a weapon that could end the war.

When they were close to losing or maybe due to a bad call it was released and I'm guessing the first thing the System Killer did was end the war, the hard way.

This people, is why you don't build engines of doom, even if it is for good reasons XD

Same idea as when the first Leviathan was built, only a much, much larger scale: "Let's build a weapon of such unimaginable destruction that it will make war obsolete! Or barring that, it will make war very short." followed by "Oh what has science wrought? We only sought a unstoppable engine of unimaginable destruction to force our enemies into submission! How could it all have gone awry and turned on us too!?! Did Steve really slack off when he programmed it?" as opposed to being hijacked by a Suul'ka.

I think the system killer was designed with the erroneous idea that there would be someone left alive to turn it off.
Buy my book - Six Seconds of Moonlight on the kindle store.

Anyone can be a god beneath the moonlight, but who can be a hero?

Lol. And everyone else in the galaxy would be raging at you.
Of course... you built a system killer, so there is not much they could do about it.

"Yea well, we dedcided this planet would serve a better purpose as an asteroid belt for mining purposes."

"There lived 300,000,000 Hiver on that planet!"

"Really? Hah, well, must've missed that, guess that's one of the risks of having an engine of doom at your disposal"

To you perhaps... "ahhh, I can't settle this planet, it's CH is too high. Blow it up!" "Wait a second, my people can settle it..." "Yeah, but you aren't my people, so you don't count."
Every time you use 'fluff' for lore a Kerberos developer dies. And they are already an endangered species.

Can you explain me, why should I care about your people. More about your people settling in my systems?

It's not MoO3, where you could have settled all types of worlds by diffrent species, and with little effort on diplomacy front, they weren't going to blow themselfs up.

Easy trade for one. It is in fact one of the techs somewhere, though it is something the other part has to tech and then ask for as far as I remember.
