So one of my systems is attacked by the System Killer which sweeps through my defense platforms and my SDBs. My dreadnought fleet engages it and it manages to hold its own. Then the System Killer reaches my planet and prepares to fire. I decided to move a damaged dreadnought to interrupt the beam, wondering if a noble sacrifice may buy the world a little more time. Turns out it didn't and the dreadnought was destroyed, not sure if by battle damage or by the beam, but even while it was targeted by the beam the planet was still exploding.
What have I learned? Don't sacrifice ships to interrupt that beam. It won't work.
I wonder if a Suul'ka could get in between and reflect the beam. Makes you wonder...
